I was always interested in the nexus between human behaviour and technology. This was why I studied psychology as an undergraduate and pursued a Ph.D. in Mass Communications, focusing on HCI.

My time as the evaluation lead and research associate was pivotal in my career for two reasons. First, I truly leveraged the full scope of human-centred design. I stepped away from theories and body of research and directly co-designed with target users, and began incorporating accessibility into my design. Second, I realized that I am highly energized when I see my research have an applied impact at a broader scale beyond academic publications and beyond my study participants.

This is why I am seeking a research position in the industry. I want a career where my work can drive tangible impact, and I can discover infinite opportunities to improve user experiences and bring about positive social impact. I'd love to work with an innovative team to elevate user experiences through data-driven insights!

Here is a summary of my educational and career highlights.

Applying Mixed Research Methods

I accurately understand which methods will give the team the answers they need, and how different methods can be combined to give the team the most complete picture possible.

My research toolkit is diverse (e.g., MAXQDA, NVivo, SPSS, R, Qualtrics, Miro), and the toolkit has empowered me to rigorously plan, conduct, and analyze qualitative and qualitative data of various sample sizes, ranging from 15 to 400+ participants.

Applying Storytelling

I have taught many communications and HCI classes to undergraduate and graduate students over 4 years and closely mentored 5 HCI graduate students. I also have 20+ conference presentations experience.

This teaching and supervisory experience has improved my communication skill, where I can clearly convey complex data and articulate user needs to influence decisions.

Applying Psychology and Human-centred Design

I apply social psychology and HCI theories and conduct human-centred design research to understand the reasons behind what drives user behaviour (i.e., the why) and how a system influences users' emotions, thoughts, and behaviours (i.e., the how). Prominent theories and body of research, in conjunction with co-designing with target users, can inspire one to ideate creative design solutions.

My toolbox consists of a spectrum of research methods. I choose my method based on stakeholder input, constraints (budget + timeline), and the research question(s) the team and I are trying to answer.
